Encinitas Shines In The Eco-Community Spotlight At Ecofest, Sunday, May 15

EcoFest_logo_ 200x175The 10th annual community celebration brings Encinitas to the forefront of the global eco-community on Sunday, May 15th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 450 Quail Gardens Dr.

The free, day-long event celebrating and honoring the Earth and the wisdom of our ancestors will feature the interactive Climate Ribbon project, the presentation of several traditional indigenous ceremonies and all culminating in the closing drum circle featuring the “World Drum”, which has traveled to over 300 countries to date.

Unite, Cooperate & Heal

The world drum’s message to “unite, cooperate and heal” will be heard from every corner of 2.75 acre field, from the Community Circle to the Pavilions and Sustainability Plaza where over 130 exhibitors will offer information, experiences and demonstrations on the newest green products and technologies.EcoFest Collage

The festivities will open with live music by local “shift rock” band, Barnwell Shift, whose Living Tea Brewing Company will also be on hand in the Green Cuisine Pavilion. Other local musicians, Hullabaloo and Lee Coulter will follow a welcome from Mayor Gaspar and County Supervisor Dave Roberts.

Learning Experience for Kids
EcoFest will truly have something for everyone. Kids will have fun learning on ‘Kids Planet’ with Roxy the Recycling Robin and gigantic bubbles and hula hoops. Attendees 21 and over can buy a taste ticket for the Beer garden where the best ‘Green Libations’ from the area’s local breweries and distilleries, such as Ballast Point and The Lost Abbey will be served.

Beyond Ballot Measure
A panel of regional experts will discuss affordable housing in Encinitas ‘Beyond Ballot Measure’ in the Sustainability Plaza, while future community leaders from San Diego County Credit Union Schools, Encinitas Union School District and Encinitas Union School District – Farm Lab, will present their environmental projects at the Green School Expo.

Global Climate Ribbon Wall Comes to San Diego, launching it at EcoFest Encinitas on Sunday, May 15th.

Attendees will be able to browse the latest green cars from BMW, Ford, Mazda and others at the Eco car show and tour an off-grid tiny house before adding their ribbon expressing what they ‘most cherish and stand to lose from climate change’ to the Climate Ribbon project, which kicks its 2016/17 San Diego tour off at EcoFest

This year’s zero-waste event will raise the bar for eco-friendly events in the area, requiring exhibitors and attendees alike to ‘take their trash home with them’.

In an effort to encourage carpooling, EcoFest organizers have also added a $10 per car on-site parking fee, and those who show proof of arriving by bike or mass transit will be entered into a raffle to win a GoPro.

Free parking will still be available on Saxony Rd and a $5 discount has been made available to those who pre-register at www.ecofestencinitas.org.
